ABOUT

Therapy with Kerry Westcott

Hi, I am Kerry, a health professional based in Suffolk. My mission is to empower individuals through co-creation to health, with short term management and long term change approaches. As a medical professional who has worked over 22 years in the NHS, and extensively studied cutting edge allied body and mind advances to well-being, I can offer an approach that supports true whole person health, including physical, mental, energetic, and spiritual health, honoring their inseparability.

Do you ever feel like there is an overload of wellbeing advice? Or an array of specialists with a focus on an isolated ‘part’ of you? I believe our well being deserves more than a fad, or a secular view. Modern day living demands a move away from looking to the stretched healthcare systems to fix all of our ills, and instead moving towards taking more responsibility for our own unique needs, resulting in the prevention and treatment of dis-ease. I deeply respect and honour your individual health and aim to empower you with self efficacy.

True Health requires a multidimensional approach that is comprehensive and considers all layers of being, with you at the centre. You are the expert of your own life. There are many veils of illusion that can block you from your true self, and often we can be confused, unsure of what we need, let alone how to ask for it and receive it. And this makes so much sense in the context of modern living, but what if there was another way to understand yourself and live a more integrated and peaceful life?

Yoga Therapy and Integrated Yoga Psychotherapy is the modality used to facilitate this truly holistic work, which is vastly different from Yoga Teaching.

"If the promise of yoga on mental health was found in a drug, it would be the best selling medication world-wide Doriswamy, 2013"

ABOUT

Yoga Therapy with Kerry Westcott

As a Yoga Therapist I use evidenced based approaches that bridge the gap between NHS services and mind, body and lifestyle medicine. We will focus on your individual unique needs, symptoms, health conditions and mental or physical presentations. Using a blend of ancient wisdom and insight, philosophy, movement, breath, mindfulness and lifestyle that is now more deeply understood by neuroscience advancements and human psychology.

This alignment of modern and ancient can give us new understanding and perspectives towards living in peace with our mind, body and soul. Supporting you to meet your goals in life and to create relationships with yourself and others that are harmonious and in line with your authenticity and true nature.

Informed by the latest scientific thinking, clients are able to gain an understanding of how these practices can provide both short and long term benefits for body systems that have become unbalanced (e.g unconsciously in the way your nervous system responds to experiences, past and present). Not only will you be learning how to promote a sense of wellbeing for your mind, you'll be providing physical conditioning and homeostasis (balance and stability for optimum functioning) for your body.

Research reveals that faster and more long-term healing occurs through the intelligent integration of mind and body techniques. Anybody can benefit whether it be that you are unsure what you need, want to seek preventative measures, support hidden stress, build your resilience, or have specific things you would like to address, like pain, mood, anxiety or insomnia, for example.

You need not have experience in yoga or mindfulness to appreciate the array of benefits.

ABOUT

Integrated Yoga Psychotherapy
with Kerry Westcott

Drawn from a rich array of modalities at the forefront of innovation and change, Integrated Yoga Psychotherapy (IYP) is an emerging profession within education and healthcare systems around the world.

A session may consist of deep engagement with yogic and buddhist concepts of the causes of suffering, to third wave cognitive behavioural therapies (CBT) commonly used in NHS settings.

We will work by integrating a dual neuroscientific approach with top-down (from higher brain structures down), and bottom-up regulation (from the body, environment and senses to the brain), this may include meditation, movement with enquiry, mindfulness, energy work,  breath work and more.

Are you seeking meaning and integration of experiences as they present in the mind- body complex? Ready to look inward and journey to root causes of symptoms? Open to learning and practicing to create change and reduce suffering? If so we could move towards human flourishing.

“Psychologists usually try to help people use insight and understanding to manage their behaviour. However, neuroscience research shows that very few psychological problems are the result of defects in understanding; most originate in pressures from deeper regions in the brain that drive our perception and attention. When the alarm bell of the emotional brain keeps signalling that you are in danger, no amount of insight will silence it.”
